Golden Triangle Tours India
India's Golden Triangle is a tourist circuit which includes : Delhi, Agra (including the Taj Mahal), and Jaipur. These trips usually last 7 or 8 days and do the trip as a circuit starting and ending in Delhi. Flights and hotels are often included in the price, and it is normally possible to do the trip by coach or private journey through most tour operators.
Delhi :
Delhi, known locally as Dilli , and by the official name National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), is the largest metropolis by area and the second-largest metropolis by population in India. It is the eighth largest metropolis in the world by population with more than 12.25 million inhabitants in the territory and with over 15.9 million residents in the National Capital Region area (which also includes Noida, Gurgaon, Greater Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad). The name Delhi is often also used to include some urban areas near the NCT, as well as to refer to New Delhi, the capital of India, which lies within the metropolis. The NCT is a federally administered union territory.
Rashtrapati Bhawan : The president's mansion is situated on Raisina Hill in the center of Delhi, overlooking the green lawns around India Gate. This elegant building, is truly worth seeing, for its architectural beauty and historic significance. The beautiful Mughal Gardens of Rashtrapati Bhawan, which are open to the public in spring, are an added attraction.
Parliament House : Located in Central Delhi, this elegant building with its wide pillared walkways and large halls, is worth a visit, to see the corridors of power where India's lawmakers and statesmen decide the future of India.
India Gate : Situated on Rajpath, in the center of Delhi, this 42-meter high arch, was designed by Edwin Lutyens, in memory of the Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the first World War. Their names can be seen inscribed on the arch. The Amar Jawan Jyoti, an eternal flame, burns in memory of the unknown soldier, beneath the shelter of the arch, which is surrounded by green lawns, fountains and water bodies - an evergreen picnic zone in the heart of central Delhi.
Red Fort : This grand fort built during the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan's reign, this majestic building made of red sandstone is the location from where the Prime Minister of India addresses the nation every Independence Day. The Diwan-e-khas, and Diwan-e-am, the weaponry museum and the sound and light show are all worth seeing at the Red Fort.
Qutab Minar : Built during the reign of Sultan Qutub-ud-din Aibak in 1199 A.D., this 72.5 m high pillar is a symbol of the Delhi Sultanate. Near it can be seen the ruins of Kila Ri Pithora, the fort of Prithviraj Chauhan, and an amazing iron pillar from Gupta times which has not yet rusted.
Humayun's Tomb : Built by Humayun's wife, Hamida Begum, in 1556, after Humayun's death, this elegantly proportioned tomb, set on a platform amidst a garden, is believed to have influenced the design of the Taj Mahal.
Bahai Temple : This aesthetically designed monument, commonly known as the Lotus Temple, because the white marble structure is built to in the shape of a lotus, set amidst, lakes and green lawns. It is a serene house of meditation, within which there are no idols and total silence prevails, so all can meditate in complete peace.
Jama Masjid : Built during the reign of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, one of the largest mosques in India, the Jama Masjid's large courtyard, onion domes and central tank are built of red sandstone and white marble in the Indo-Islamic style.
Akshardham Temple : The Akshardham Temple Complex in Delhi is the recent addition made to the tourist attraction list of Delhi. The Temple built near the Akshardham Flyover in the East Delhi area, is one of the finest structures build in the modern India.
Agra
Agra is a city on the banks of the Yamuna River in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It finds mention in the epic Mahabharata where it was called Agrevana , or 'the border of the forest'. Legend ascribes the founding of the city to Raja Badal Singh (around 1475), whose fort, Badalgarh, stood on or near the site of the present Fort. However, the 11th century Persian poet Masūd Said Salman writes of a desperate assault on the fortress of Agra, then held by the Shahī King Jayapala, by Sultan Mahmud of Ghazni.

Buland Darwaza : The name Buland Darwaza means High Door and this victory arch has the height of 176 feet from ground level and 134 feet over the top step. Very striking even from quite a distance, Buland Darwaza is a magnificent structure built in red sandstone with ornamentation in white marble. The calligraphic inscriptions from the Quran on its front and pillars and chattris on its height make the arch an impressive sight. The Buland Darwaza is also indication of the religious tolerance of Akbar the Great, evident from the inscription upon it attributed to Jesus Christ - "The World is but a bridge, pass over but build no houses on it."
Akbar's Tomb at Sikandra : One of the most important bases of Mughal power, Agra is home to some of the finest examples of Mughal architecture. One of these is Akbar's Tomb at Sikandra , where one of the greatest emperors in the world lies buried. Perhaps the greatest monarch India has ever seen and definitely the most powerful and able ruler of the Mughal dynasty, Akb ar supervised the construction of the tomb himself during his lifetime. The rest of the tomb was completed by his son Jahangir after Akbar's death.
Fatehpur Sikri : Located on the outskirts of Agra, at a distance of only 26 miles, Fatehpur Sikri was one of the most important bases of Mughal rule and the capital of Akbar during the 1571 to 1585. Fatehpur Sikri was instrumental in being one of the places along with Agra and the Red Fort, where a bulk of the Mughal arsenal, treasure hoards and other reserves were stored. Legend has it that the fort was built as a tribute to the great Sufi Saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, with whose blessing Prince Salim was born, Akbar's descendent who was destined to grow up to become the next Mughal emperor Jahangir.
Jaipur :
Jaipur also popularly known as the Pink City, is the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan. During the British rule in India, Jaipur was the capital of the princely state of Jaipur. Founded on 18 November, 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the ruler of Amber, the city today has a population of more than 6 million.
Tourist Attractions in Jaipur :
1. The City Palace : Made by Raja Jai Singh 2, the City Palace Complex occupies about 1/7th of the walled city. The magnificent brass gateway to the main palace builidng opens into a courtyard that overlooks the Mubarak Mahal, now housing the textile section of the Raja Sawai Man Sigh 2 Museum. A blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture that rules over most Rajasthani historic monument is also visible here.
2. Hawa Mahal : The Hawa Mahal, is easily the most well known name in the list of tourist attractions in Jaipur. Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the Hawa Mahal or the palace of breeze is a part of the Jaipur City Palace complex. Sporting the Rajput meets Mughal style of architecture that characterizes the city this building has 953 windows in the front giving it a honeycombed look. The windows were originally made to facilitate the royal ladies forbidden to go outdoors to have a view of the street.
3. Amber Fort : The rugged Aravalli hills have time and again stood guard to invaders trying to subdue the gallant Rajputs. This is one of the reasons why the jagged stones of the Aravalli have repeatedly served as the foundations to invincible forts and citadels all over Rajasthan. The sprawling Amber Palace and Fort happens to be one of the best hilltop forts built by the Rajputs. The construction of this fort was started by the famous Raja Man Singh in the 1592 and completed by Raja Sawai Jai Singh 1. Perched elegantly atop rugged rocks overlooking a lake, the Amber Palace built in a blend of Rajput and Mughal style, remains an architectural marvel till date.
